Along with the Health for Homeless team, I helped launch a workshop series in high schools to help address the persistent stigma surrounding the unhoused community to teach the idea of homelessness as an intersecitonal issue to a younger audience.
This initiative was inspired by research conducted by Dr. Kaitlin Schwan, as well as subsequent consultations with experts and stakeholders working at the forefront of devising solutions to end homelessness.
We were fortunate to receive a $5000 grant from the York Region District School Board to bring this initiative to Bayview Secondary School, resulting in the successful implementation of our pilot workshop, reaching 150+ students from grade 9 - 12.
